SIGN UP TODAY Web site offers e-mail alerts, improved information delivery

Mustang Public School’s athletic Web site has a contemporary look, improved performance and more options for parents and fans. The new site, www.mustangbroncos,org, was launched three weeks ago and content is being added daily. Fans can sign up as users of the site and receive e-mail alerts about their favorite teams. Web links from local newspapers and other media outlets will also be provided for site visitors.

Chuck Bailey, district athletic director, said the site is already making a difference.

“The new set up is like a team approach to creating a Web site,” he said. “It’s Web-based and structured so that each coach can update team information from any computer. Since the framework of this site was made available to us, it’s unbelievable how quickly information has been added.”

Nicole Fleming, a teacher at Mustang Middle School and an assistant softball coach, created individual passcodes and usernames for district coaches. She also spent several hours inputting basic information so the system would be ready for the coaches to fill in the details.

With boy’s varsity basketball, for example, a patron can find a schedule, roster and contact information for coaches. Once the season begins, game summaries, news and photos will be added. In the summer, parents will find information for camps and clinics hosted by the Broncos.

“One of the most exciting features of the new site is e-mail alerts,” Bailey said. “If there is a game cancellation or schedule change, parents, faculty and fans who sign up for the alerts will be sent an email when the information is entered into the Web site. Fans can sign up to receive alerts for as few or as many teams as they like.”

The site was purchased through Big Teams, a company devoted to helping schools create athletic Web sites that are user-friendly for both the coaches and patrons. A local little-league football coach owned the domain name, but transferred it to Mustang Public Schools.

“Mustangbroncos.org was the perfect name to become the Internet home of Mustang athletics. We cannot say thank you enough to Jason Bose, a local coach who owned the domain but was willing to transfer it to the school district,” Bailey said. “The site has turned out to be even more impressive and user-friendly than I had hoped. It’s a reflection of the quality 6A program we have in Mustang and the direction we’re headed with athletics. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
